Maybell, Colorado

Maybell, Colorado is the closest town to Sand Wash Basin.

Maybell has a campground with RV spots with electricity. There is also a public restroom with showers. There is a small fee for the showers, but the restroom is free.

The Old Victory Hotel is also located in Maybell, and is the only hotel in town. They are not on-line but you can contact them at oldvictory13@yahoo.com.

There are also several hunting camps in the area that may have cabins available.

Maybell General Store, is a small convenience store, that has propane, fuel and snacks.

There are two repairs shops in Maybell for vehicle repairs.
Sid, Doug, often comes to the basin to repair a tire, change a tire or pull us out.  His number is  970 269-7050. He does not take insurance, but is very reasonably priced.

Hotels In Craig, Colorado

There are many hotels in Craig, Colorado.  Use your favorite online site to check them out.

Craig is 45 east of Sand Wash Basin, and has shops and restaurants to meet all of your needs.

Emergencies

Although we seldom have accidents in the basin, but they do happen.

911 is always the first number to call, but you need understand that help is a long ways away.

Maybell Emergency Rescue is the closest, and they are a minimum of 30 minutes away. Craig is at least 45 minutes away. 

Cell service is spotty and you may not have any at an accident site. The Moffat County Sheriff now has the capability to locate your location by GPS.  Call and keep calling even if you think the call is not going through. They may be getting the call and can trace it to find your location.

We suggest that you stay in touch with someone outside of the Basin. Keep them posted on your plans, so they can notify someone if you do not return at the agreed upon time.

Remember this is a primitive area.  You may be the only person in the area.
